Mein Name ist David und ich lebe in Pennsylvania, USA. Ich fahre einen 2012 GLI (Basismodell). Es ist ein 6-Gang-Schaltgetriebe. Die Basis GLI in den USA kommt mit RCD510, Bluetooth und 17-Zoll-Bathurst Felgen und Ganzjahresreifen. Ich habe in diesem Forum nur um zu sehen, welche Art von Änderungen, die Sie Jungs haben Ihre Autos getan. Ich denke, dass euch viel schöner Autos mit mehr Optionen zu erhalten. Ich wünschte, ich hätte climatronic und europäischen Scheinwerfer / Rücklichter). Der 2.0L Motor und 2.5L in den USA sind eher einfach und langweilig. Die 2,0 ist unser Ersatz für die 1.2TSI/1.4TSI, während die 2,5 ersetzt die 1.4TSI doppelt aufgeladenen Motor. Für 2014 wird die USA einen 1.8T aus dem MK7 Golf zu bekommen. USA Modelle (außer GLI) erhalten eine Verbundlenker-Hinterachse statt einer Multi-Link. Wie auch immer, hier sind ein paar Bilder von meinem Auto!

I wish i had climatronic, and european headlights/taillights). The 2.0L engine and 2.5L available in the US are rather simple and boring. The 2.0 is our replacement for the 1.2TSI/1.4TSI, while the 2.5 replaces the 1.4TSI twincharged engine. For 2014, the USA will get a 1.8T from the MK7 golf. USA models (other than GLI) get a torsion beam rear suspension instead of a multi-link. Anyways, here are some pictures of my car!

Thank you for the warm welcome! It's funny that you guys like the American parts. In my opinion, if im buying a european car, i want to experience it the same way i would in europe! I think that the red turn signal on the USA tail light is very cheesy, like a Chevrolet or ford...and don't even get me started on the disgusting orange reflector in the headlight. It clashes with the car so bad! Believe me, if i could wait for us to trade parts, I would trade you in a heart beat!

Your GLI looks really nice. we love the GLI, even VW does not offer it in europe

In the US u can get many many parts for the jetta. Currently we just can get the OEM parts
and some boring super-tuning-parts

Yeah, and don't forget: no TÜV! I wish we could replace the halogen reflectors with Xenon HID as easy as in the US. And, of course, the airride systems, which are here in Austria never ever legal

I know you guys don’t get the GLI, but I think it’s the same car as a regular 2.0TSI with sport suspension, right? Other than the steering wheel, seat stitching, and body kit.

How come air ride is illegal? What modifications are or are not allowed? Do you guys have APR?

Yes, the US GLI is, other than the S/SE/SEL, based on the european 2.0L TSI.

If so, no we don't have APR, but we have, for example, ABT as approved tuner by VW => http://www.abt-sportsline.de/
Also there are many smaller companies, which are specialised in ECU modifications ("Chiptuning" ).
Unfortunately the Jetta is in Europe not as popular as in the US, so there are not many aftermarked parts you can use. There are just OEM parts of the US Jetta we can use, or some "special" OEM parts (lip spoiler, sideskirts, spoiler for the trunk) => see the original VW catalogue here

In Germany, and much more in Austria, we have regulations for nearly all modifications. While in Germany it is allowed to put airride in your car (if that one you're using is approved by TÜV), in Austria it isn't. The reason is, that it is not allowed that the car can change its height - except the manufacturer put it in when he had built the car. Don't ask me why

Window tinting: very hard to get approved (has to be a special foil, not on the windows in front,...)

Springs, coils and damper: only if they are approved by TÜV and for your car => not really a problem here, the main problem in Austria is, that the car should have a minimum height of 11cm (4,3 inch). In Germany it is - I think - around 8cm (3,14 inch), but it also can be lower in special circumstances.

It is also not easy to swap the headlights from halogen to Xenon. Aftermarket Xenon HIDs are strictly forbidden (somebody could e dazzled...), and if you plan to put in the OEM parts, you also have to put in the headlight washers and the automatic headlight range adjustment - which blows up the costs just for Xenon. A simple Xenon swap costs about 3.900$ (3.000€).

Nearly every modification has to be approved by the german TÜV (in Austria it is called "typisiert"). Also, the parts, which you want to use, have to be tested and be approved by TÜV (except OEM).

In the US you just chance the parts, we have to get the approval of the gov.

Wow! That is some interesting stuff! Having to get permission to modify YOUR OWN car is ridiculous! I know the Golf is far more popular, but why is that? Do people really think hatchbacks are more practical? By the way, do you guys in Europe swap Audi k04 turbos in place of the stock k03?

Yes thats's exactly the same as we think, i mean we don't harm anybody by modding our cars. Its just that government that want it like this, K if you see some russian tuning cars, i'm glad to live not there

Yeah, some proffessional modding companys offer the K04 tubos in an stage 3 package. ... But its muuuuch expensive for the most 18-30 year olds, so you dont see that much of these modifys. And IF someone replaced the K03 to K04, he won't shout it out :-/ the most modders are just like "you want to find out whats under the hood, you have to test it out in a race" ...so embarrassing
